Sael was born with the crystal carvings on his skin, which marked him as the next tuner in Eirian. Since his royal blood, and right to inherit Vasilissa (a castle not far from Talaith) and he had a granted place in the Council of the Six Lands, his family hid him in a room, and tried to find a healer, who could "heal him" from this condition.

By the time he became 5, his power began to rise, and he was able to transform objects. His father, Airoch Ice chained him to a wall then, and forbade anybody to enter, but a healer, who brought his food and medicines.
A year after that, Basil was born, and Sael was announced dead, while he was still in the room. The public believed that he was dead, and that the new heir was Basil Ice.

At the age of 5, Basil found his room, but she kept it a secret, and from that day, she visited his brother every day for the following two years, when a Hit Man broke into Vasilissa and killed both of their parents, and rescued Sael. He trained with his rescuer for the following three years, and became his partner.
